Vacation Time!

Hello! I’m writing this from a hotel room floor, in the partial dark, in Dallas, Texas. We drove out here (yep, drove from Pennsylvania to Texas…in a Honda Civic…with a 3 and 5 year old) to visit my Aunt, Uncle and 103-year-old grandmother. We haven’t seen them since before Covid so it was quite the reunion. Our kids are actually wonderful in the car and we’ve done several cross-country trips to visit my in-laws in the past 2 years. On the drive here, my husband and I were talking about really enjoying our vacation and he agreed to stay off Twitter for a week, to do this challenging with me! I’m so grateful because he loves Twitter and probably isn’t as devoted this instant gratification detox challenge as I am. He’s very supportive of everything I do though, even the wacky things apparently!
Our next stop on this trip is Denver, Colorado to visit my in-laws. We’ll be there for 2 weeks, the first week being vacation (yay!) and the second we’ll be working remotely. I have been looking forward to unwinding during our vacation week for months. However, during the drive, I had the thought pop up “What if I get bored? How will I fill up that time?” My brain is so concerned about boredom. I really want to reframe those moments lacking stimulation as rest and relaxation rather than boredom, but this has definitely been a sticking point for me. Now that I actually have some downtime, I’m hoping to blog more consistently this week and tell you all about a week of vacation with very little instant gratification other than the social variety!
