The Morning Routine

Sorry I haven’t written in a few days! No excuse – pure laziness. Overall, I’m keeping up with my plan though I have been checking social media (on my computer, not phone) 1-2 times a day. I’m noticing that I’m just feeling very disconnected from the world and the people in my life that I don’t see regularly (which is, these days, everyone). I’m not sure how I feel about this. I am surely getting a little dopamine hit from peering into others’ lives, but on the other hand I’m not mindlessly scrolling through it anymore.

Okay, I’m going to be totally honest with you here. Here was my pre-challenge morning routine:

(1) get up around 5:45

(2) down 1 huge bottle of lemon water

(3) make coffee

(4) sit down in the quiet living room

(5) put on CNN

(6) check work email, personal email, Facebook, Us Magazine for about 20 minutes (in that order).

Now it looks like this

(1) get up around 5:45

(2) down 1 huge bottle of lemon water

(3) make coffee

(4) sit down in the quiet living room (no TV)

(4) journal

(5) check work email, personal email, CNN and NYT websites for headlines

(6) Quickly (and guiltily) check Facebook, Us Magazine for just about 2 minutes each.

At the very beginning, I had cut out Facebook and Us Magazine completely, but FB and Us slowly crept back in. My justification was "It's only a few minutes and I'm not doing it on my phone mindlessly - it's highly controlled!" Ugh, as I’m writing this I know I have to cut out Us Magazine – it’s cringy and I know it. I get nothing out of it accept pure, icky, voyeuristic pleasure. Facebook, on the other hand...let me think about that one. I’m still not sure if checking it for a few minutes a day is adding or taking away from my life. Let me do some processing and I'll get back to you soon.

Happy weekend everyone!
